The term developed country is used to describe countries that have a high level of development according to some criteria. Which criteria, and which countries are classified as being developed, is a contentious issue and is surrounded by fierce debate. Economic criteria have tended to dominate discussions. One such criterion is income per capita; countries with high gross domestic product (GDP) per capita would thus be described as developed countries. Another economic criterion is industrialization; countries in which the tertiary and quaternary sectors of industry dominate would thus be described as developed. More recently another measure, the Human Development Index, which combines with an economic measure, national income, with other measures, indices for life expectancy and education has become prominent. This criterion would define developed countries as those with a very high (HDI) rating. However, many anomalies exist when determining "developed" status by whichever measure is used. Countries not fitting such definitions are classified as developing countries. From Wikipedia under the

Well, just like in developing countries, Developed countries have people who live below the poverty line and struggle. Furthermore, health care is something that is normally unreasonably expensive, unless an employer is helping cover the cost (In the United States at least). There is no way anyone who isn t upper class can afford to pay for health care services on their own. If workers are required to pay more for health care, they may opt out, not purchase health care, so they can provide the necessary daily care for their families. Not only will this cause problems if someone is in need of care, it dissuades people from seeking preventative medicine. Q. This question pertains about science and technology in developed and developing countries. Asked by dave karl - Tue Jan 1 04:08:16 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Your question is simple but the answer is not. Bringing up a developing country requires the effort of the people to learn much more than the essentials of science and technology and the only way that will be possible is if they are satisfying their other basic needs, eating, good economy, and a satisfactory health system and a stable political system. Otherwise, they will not have the time, resources or energy to devote toward this cause. There are, of course, exceptions individually to this, scholarships, exchange programs, etc, and when enough people are able and up to speed, hopefully they will provide the leadership to enable it to happen.
